TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern today officially opened the new state of the art Parkway Retail Park on the Dublin Road.
Phase one of this €50m project, which is a joint venture development between Dunloe Ewart plc and Parkes Properties, encompasses 160,000 square feet.
It is one of the most modern shopping centres anywhere in Europe and is expected to transform shopping habits in the entire region.
The development has secured some of the biggest names in retailing including Currys, the biggest electrical retailer in the UK.
The developers include Parkes Properties, one of Limerick's best-known business families.
Members of the family have made an enormous contribution towards the growth of business life in the region. The family are well-known builders and developers.
All of the first phase is full, with only four units remaining to be let.
The Parkway is an impressive addition to the new and vibrant Limerick and presents a very positive enhanced gateway to the city.
The site embraces 11 acres.
Firms in the first phase are Homebase, Currys, Carpet right, Elvery Sports, Hickey's Fabrics and PC World.
Commercial Property Management Services will manage the complex, with Rooney Auctioneers and Lambert Smith Hampton acting as letting agents.
The attendance at this afternoons opening was due to include Cllr John Ryan, Mayor of the city, and Bridget Teefey, Mayor of the County Council.
Junior ministers Willie O'Dea and Tim O'Malley were also expected to be amongst the guests.
Also expected to attend was Noel Smith of Dunloe Ewart.
